Recently I chose to complete an MA in digital media and games design. Much of my effort went into producing a dissertation dissecting the balance between gameplay and narrative in modern games.
A copy of the dissertation is available for you to download below.
The analysis focusses on the impact of narrative delivery devices in games, concluding that any facet of a game that imparts narrative onto the player effects also the gameplay in some way. The conclusion goes on to asses the differing effects of cutscenes, dialogue etc on gameplay and suggests ideal uses for many narrative delivery methods.
As a piece of work, it shows that I think about games, am interested in narrative, and that I am passionate about the intricate inner workings of modern videogames.
